Charlotte Myland
JAGUAR GOD
"What becomes of us when we die? This piece is from my project based on 'Emperor Of Sand' by Mastodon. This album tells a dark story, influenced by the band's personal experience of losing family members to cancer. My artwork combines storytelling and symbolism to respond to their story; of a man lost in the desert, tormented and mislead until he dies. In death he is transformed. The Jaguar God figure is what Mayan Shamans are said to become when they die, descending into another dimension to fight disease and illness. Ravens are often seen as psychopomps - a spirit which guides souls to the afterlife."
